Minnie Hill is a Melbourne based composer, arranger and saxophonist who is making her mark in the music scene as a talented and prolific writer. Minnie writes for both big band and smaller jazz ensembles and regularly leads sold out ensembles at the Paris Cat Jazz Club in Melbourne. Minnie has just released her debut big band album; 'The Remarkable Dave Brubeck', featuring Brubeck's compositions arranged for the 'Minnie Big Band'. This album features some of Melbourne's best jazz musicians such as Jack Earle and Carlo Barbaro who play the role of Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond for the album. A bonus track on the album features world renowned trombonist Marshall Gilkes. The album has also been featured as 'Album Of The Week' on ABC Jazz.
Minnie is also the recipient of one of the ABC's inaugural 'Composer Commissioning Fund' awards which will allow her to record a new set of compositions with many of Melbourne's top musicians.
In 2019 , Minnie's composition 'Silver's Swing' was selected as apart of the VCAA 'Top Sounds' concert, which took place at Iwaki Auditorium in Melbourne and showcased the top compositions in the state for VCE Music Style and Composition.
As a performer, Minnie has regularly appeared as lead alto in the Jazz Melbourne Studio Youth Big Band. This has allowed her to play alongside international artists such as Rich DeRosa, Dick Oatts, Drew Zaremba, Jose Aponte and Tanya Darby.
